The Marty Ford Band was started by Marty Weatherford, Waylon Weatherford and Bob Weatherford.
Bob is the father of Waylon and Marty. Bob played in various bands for years while Waylon and Marty were growing up but neither Waylon or Marty showed much interest in playing music, especially country music, which is what Bob mostly played at the time. Waylon, however did learn to play drums while in school, and after graduating eventually played drums for a while with a metal band, but soon quit that and settled down to stay home and raise his children. Bob had been retired from playing with a band since about 1988.
Marty at some point began to get interested in playing the guitar and singing, and being the kind of person who when he decides to do something goes all out, he soon began to get good at it. Marty decided to move to Nashville and pursue a career in the music business. So, he lived and worked in Nashville for several years and met many people in the music industry. In 2004, for family reasons, Marty decided to move back to Georgia.
Marty wanted to form a band and continue to pursue his music so he ask Waylon to play drums for him and Waylon said yes. Marty then calls Bob and ask him to play lead guitar for him. Well , Bob had not played in years and was getting some age on him and was a little uncertain about it. But, how often does a Dad get an opportunity to do something like this with his son's ? Bob said "sure I would love to". So the beginnings of the band were formed.
We have gone through a few bass guitar players and guitar players from that time until the present but the three of us are still together. I hope we can continue for many years to come.
